The TENDREL guide to taking care of your gear. Here we teach you how to wash your selvedge denim, take care of shirts, and more. We like to keep it simple in this house. We get a lot of questions - how do i wash my jeans? Should I put my jeans in the freezer? Is this the stuff you never have to wash? Let's dive in.
Throughout this guide we will be using some terminology that you may not be familiar with. If you head to the bottom we've got a little glossary that is constantly being added to.
ALWAYS FIRST CHECK THE TAGS IN YOUR CLOTHES FOR GARMENT SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS
The Golden Rule
For just about any piece that can be washed at home (so really just excluding dry cleaning) we have a golden rule that never seems to fail - COLD WASH & HANG DRY. If you stick to this you'll be good to go.
How To Wash Your Jeans
Overall we preach our Golden Rule. But there are a few more steps that will insure that your jeans are taken care of. Also, there are different kinds of denim that need different things.
The Steps (For sanforized or one washed jeans)
- Turn them inside out
This helps keep the color nice, and prevents some streaky discoloration. Not the most important step. The longer I have been wearing a pair of jeans the less I do this. - Cold wash on a gentle cycle
At TENDREL we skip the freezer, but if that's your bag by all means hit it up. After turning inside out we throw our jeans by themselves in the washer and run em on the most gentle cycle. We use natural unscented detergents - personal preference. Use whatever you use. - Hang Dry
We have a hanging rack. But use whatever you got! - Pop on those suckers and get out there.
Taking Care Of Your Raw Denim
Have no fear of the fully raw denim, we've got you covered and it is easy peasy.
Soak your jeans in a tub of hot water for an hour then head back up to the How To Wash Your Jeans section. Boom, you are ready to rock.
Cotton Garments
Did I mention you gotta follow the Golden Rule?
Glossary
Golden Rule - If you don't know what the golden rule is by now....
One Wash - A method to take out the shrinkage of the jean.
Raw - These days we use raw pretty liberally to cover jeans that aren't technically raw but are pretty dang close. But truly raw jeans have no post processing at all - so they will need to be soaked before wear to take out the shrinkage.
Sanforized - A process that compacts the yarns of the jean together to take out the shrinkage.
