A few blocks from the Santa Monica beach, the Beach Boys turned a former adult movie theater into Brother Studio. Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson owned the space, which was already hosting sessions in early 1974 and officially opened to outside artists that May. Elton John recorded there, and Dennis later made Pacific Ocean Blue within its walls.
A 1975 ad promised serious recording equipment alongside a video lounge, Pong, pinball, and bumper pool. It sounds like a place where people wanted to stay after the session ended. TSPTR’s Brother tee remembers that particular corner of California music history.
